Physical Education

The Haverling Physical Education Department is staffed by 4 main instructors.  They are Mr. Furness, Mr. Carroll, Mrs. Neu, and Ms. Crane.

Bath-Haverling offers a program and curriculum that varies from team sports to individual practices of CPR.

Unfortunately, our Physical Education classes are not grouped by grade. We have been given an assortment of ages from 9th graders to seniors. Due to the difference in ages, it has been very difficult to offer a curriculum that offers the New York State Standards. This is a problem that the district is trying to cope with. We are trying to do the best job possible with the classes we have and offer a positive curriculum that is challenging and geared towards personal fitness.

Our curriculum includes team sports of two-hand touch football, soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball, softball, lacrosse, wrestling, bowling, and floor hockey. Each unit is taught with emphasis on proper skill and technique in an actual game setting. Individual sports include tennis, archery, weight lifting, line dancing, gymnastics, walking, orienteering, project adventure and golf.

It is our wish that a new era of Physical Education can take place at Bath Central Schools with new facilities. Our new swimming facility makes it possible for us to offer an advanced swimming program for our younger students in the Elementary School and Middle School. A new gymnasium also offers added room for classes. Block scheduling has also had a major impact on our program. The longer class blocks offer a wider range of activities such as the ones listed above.

As Bath School advances itself with its academic achievements, we will also be advancing the Physical Education program.
