The initial implementation plan for 1 to 1 encompasses grades 3-12 and will span a period of 3 years beginning in the fall of 2010. The plan consists of six phases - a pilot phase in the fall and spring semesters of each school year.
Prior to each pilot phase participating teachers will participate in 2-3 days of professional development in preparation for integration of netbooks into their classroom. Participating teachers will also be provided with two days of professional development during their implementation phase.
Implementation in each grade level, team or department will begin with in-classroom pilots. The devices will remain within the classroom of the participating teacher(s) and be available to students within that classroom at any time during the school day.
At the point a grade level has enough devices for every student, that grade level will migrate to full 1 to 1. In a full 1 to 1 model the devices are assigned to students as opposed to a classroom. Parents and students will participate in a 1 to 1 orientation and parents will be provided the option of allowing the device to leave school with the student.
