Thank you for visiting the vocal music web-page. I have been teaching general music and directing middle school choruses for more than twelve years in the Bath School District.
For the past several years, I have been using video assessment for each of my chorus students. We began by using VHS tapes for each student, and recently started using digital recording and applying the video assessment to student's portfolio directly on line. You can access your child's portfolio from home, with assistance from your child.
Two or three times a year, after spending a few weeks on a piece of music, we record each student, using video and audio. After the students make their recording, they view their performances and grade themselves using a rubric, which has also been made available on line. I also grade each student, using the same rubric.
Students should hear and see improvement in each performance. Although the students are very nervous doing the recording sessions, they do enjoy seeing and hearing themselves on the computer screen.
