Audio Books and eBooks

Audio books and eBooks are a great way for leisure reading and research.  There are different formats and ways to access these materials.

Bath School Libraries

Audio books are available in CD and PlayAway formats.  PlayAways are similar to a self-contained mP3 player.  You can search for them using OPAC.  Locate the item container on the shelf and sign it out at the Circulation Desk.

Audio books on CD and PlayAway formats generally cost more than than print books.  Students will are required to have a permission form signed before borrowing these materials.  See form at bottom of page.

eBooks are integrated into OPAC.  Look at the search results for a URL address and click on it.

Spotlight on New York & Marshall Cavendish eBooks

The GST BOCES School Library System has purchased two collections of ebooks for your use. Both sets allow unlimited simultaneous access.  These are not subscriptions; they are outright purchases and therefore will be accessible for years to come.  Records will be available shortly so that we can incorporate them into the library catalog.

·         The first set is Spotlight on New York from Rosen Publishing Company.  The books are current (© Year 2012) with a reading level of grades 3-4 and interest level of grades 4-7.  The books feature both Full-color and Black-and-White Photographs, Illustrations, Glossary, Index, Maps, Primary Source Exam Questions, Primary Sources, and Web Sites.

Titles included are: ; Key Leaders in Colonial New York; Native Americans; New York; New York's Early Explorers; New York's Government; New York's Industrial Growth; New York's Role in the New Nation; The American Revolution in New York; The British Colony of New York; The Economic Growth of New York; The Land and Resources of New York; The Melting Pot.  I do not believe that these are downloadable to portable devices.

·         The second set is a much larger set from Marshall Cavendish eBooks.  These eBooks are searchable, bookmarkable digital books that include the full text and illustrations of all of the Marshall Cavendish titles.  They are mostly non-fiction, but there are a few fiction titles.  Topics include American History; Animals; Biography; Business and Economics; Careers; Cars; Chapter Books; Cooking; Cultures; Environmental Studies; Health; Issues; Literature; Math; Middle Grade Fiction; Picture Books; Science; Social Studies; Spanish; Sports; Technology; Teen Fiction; World History.  A Title list is attached for your information.

These books are currently available online or with their proprietary iOffline Reader. The eBooks should be available soon for download onto portable devices such as Nooks, Kindles, or other ereaders.

Depending on which district you are in, this link may or may not immediately display the bookshelf.  You may need to get a hard copy of the login and passwork from the library.  Teachers can refer to an email regarding eBooks sent on 05/09/2012 for the login and password.
