Bagpiper Visits 5/6 Grade Band
October 14, 2010

On October 13, the 5th/6th Grade Band was treated to the sounds of Bagpipes. Local bagpiper Mr. Randy Ziegenhegen demonstrated the techniques involved in playing the instrument, as well as sharing historical information relative to the creation and development of the instrument. Various students were given the opportunity to play the bagpipes and experience the incredible amount of air and breathe support needed to play the bagpipes well.

 


High School Music Department to present Pops Concert
October 14, 2010

The annual Pops Concert will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 7:30pm in the Haverling Auditorium. The concert will feature the Concert Band under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Kraemer, the Chamber Choir under the direction of Mr. Neil Bryson, and the Blue Regiment Marching Band under the direction of Mr. John Cole.

 


Band Boosters Seeks Pepsi Refresh Grant

The Bath Band Boosters has applied for a $25,000 grant through the Pepsi Refresh Project. Their idea is to collect used instruments donated by community members, have them refurbished, and loan them to students who do not have the financial means to purchase or rent an instrument. Music Job Shadowing
October 14, 2010

The music department will be adding a new opportunity for students that might be interested in choosing a career in the music education field. Mrs. Kraemer, our new department member, will be spearheading this project. Any student that wants to explore the option of becoming a music teacher, or pursue a career in the music field is encouraged to speak with Mrs. Kraemer and setup a shadowing experience.



Haverling Student Accepted to Macy's Day Parade 


Haverling High School senior Allen Wheaton will have the opportunity to perform in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Allen applied for, and received a spot, in the clarinet section of the band. At Haverling Allen is very active in the instrumental music program. He is a Drum Major for the Haverling Blue Regiment, 1st Chair Clarinet of the Concert Wind Ensemble, and a member of the Jazz Ensemble in the saxophone section. In addition he has also participated in many of the Steuben All-County Band ensembles.

Honoring America’s finest high school musicians, the Macy’s Great American Marching Band will be comprised of select students from each of the fifty states. Approximately 50 flags and dancers will complement the 185 musicians. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is internationally recognized as the official start of the holiday season and world-famous as a uniquely American entertainment extravaganza. Stepping-off from Central Park, the band will be cheered by the 2.5 million spectators lining the parade route. Arriving at Macy’s Herald Square, the band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience, and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC. All students interested in being part of this prestigious event submitted an audition/application. Based upon application Allen was chosen as one of the few students from the state of New York to be a part of the Great American Marching band. He will be traveling to New York City November 20th -26Th. The band will learn their routine for the parade as well as get to view the city. On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, he will take to the parade route with pride.

On Friday, October 22, 2010 there will be a benefit Spaghetti Dinner held at the United Centenary Methodist Church in Bath. For more information refer to the flyer listed at the bottom of this web page.


Blue Regiment Presents "Road Show"
October 15, 2010

The Blue Regiment Marching Band has been busy practicing and performing their field show called “Road Show.” The music for this year’s show features the popular tunes Take it to the Streets by Doobie Brothers, Road Kill a percussion feature written by John Cole, Vehicle by the Ides of March, Home Sweet Home by Motley Crüe, and Travelin’ Band by Creedence Clearwater Revival. To date, the Blue Regiment performed at home football games and has competed in Vestal, NY; and Crystal City Competition in Corning, NY. At the Crystal City Competition the band competed against Corning East, Johnson City, Vestal, Marcus-Whitman, Hornell, and Wellsville. They placed 5th at this competition. Their trip to Vestal put them up against Corning East, Johnson City, and Vestal; a third place was awarded to the band.

Upcoming performances of Road Show will be held at Victor, NY on October 16, 2010 and again at Bandtoberfest in Corning, NY on October 22, 2010. The band will travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY on October 31, 2010 to compete in the New York State Field Band Competition.
