What is Work Based Learning (WBL)?

WBL is an authentic learning experience that allows students to explore their career goals, abilities, and interests while applying their academic and technical knowledge and skills in real-world context. This is a combination of classroom education and hands on work experience that allows students to take part in activities that have true meaning to them.

What are the Benefits of Work based Learning?

Just to List a few....

  • Students

    • develop employability skills  & work habits

    • get first hand, authentic career exploration

    • can get paid $$$

  • Community Businesses get trained employees

  • Schools get more engaged students and higher graduation rates

What students take part in Work Based Learning?

As we begin to build the Program at Haverling the focus will be getting select upperclassmen engaged in WBL experiences. The ultimate goal will be to have the program touch all our students through a comprehensive Career & College Readiness Curriculum that culminates with hands-on, authentic career exploration by taking part in job shadowing and WBL job placements while still in high school.

If my child is interested in WBL what steps should I take?
